Smith & Cult

My newest nail obsession, is Smith & Cult. I came across the line, working in the Hampton’s last summer and have been hooked ever since. Their exclusive 5-free formula, is formulated without Dibutyl, Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor, making it a great option to throw into the mix. Admittedly, I will do gel on my nails when I know my schedule will be crazy or I will be traveling, as the longevity is insane. This polish is great to come back to though, as I feel like I can give my nails a break from a lot of the added chemicals found in other polish lines. The packaging is super cute, and although the nail polish top is a bit heavy, it actually makes it easy to apply the polish. The durability is great, and I am usually able to get a good two weeks out of a manicure.. that says a whole lot, being that my hands are always in water.

A bit of a splurge at $18 a pop, it’s totally worth it for the great coverage, shine and 5-free formula. With it’s playful names, Stockholm Syndrome has been my go-to color as of lately. I’m going to to add the Kundalini Hustle, a fun poppy red, into the rotation soon! Check all of the shades out here.

Whipped Coconut Lotion

A lover of coconut oil, I made this luxurious, whipped body lotion. The perfect remedy to keep skin hydrated and protected throughout the day. It pairs perfectly, when used after my favorite coffee scrub. Coconut oil becomes light and airy when whipped up, making it much easier to apply after a bath or shower and it becomes more absorbent. I whipped mine up with a little Olive Oil to keep the lotion in perfect consistency, preventing it from solidifying. You could also use jojoba, sunflower, or almond oil in addition to or in place of the olive oil. Add in your favorite essential oil to top it off. I used lemon grass to scent mine.

  • 1 C. Solid Coconut Oil*
  • 1/2 t. Olive Oil
  • 8 Drops of Essential Oil

Using a Kitchen Aid or hand mixer, combine the three ingredients and whip on high for 8-10 minutes to desired consistency. Slather over body after a shower or bath.

* The Coconut Oil must be solid before whipping, in order to get a whipped consictancy. Store in the refrigerator until solid, if needed.

Bubble Bath

My favorite way to unwind from a day, is slipping into a nice bubble bath. Granted, I usually bring a glass of wine in, which helps too.

In all seriousness though, stress melts away.. Especially if you try this recipe for an all natural DIY bubble bath.

  • 1 C. Castille Soap  ( I used Bronner’s )
  • 1 C. Water
  • 4 T. Coconut Oil
  • 3 T. Honey  ( I love Phoenicia Honey Co. made locally in the Catskills )
  • 10 Drops Essential Oil ( I used 5 drops of Lavender + 5 drops of Lemongrass oil )

Mix ingredients together and pour into a jar. Take a deep breath and relax in your bath.

Wrap Around Ponytail

This is the perfect hairstyle, to rock on a day that you want to look done and polished but do not have a lot of time- at all. Super quick, this take on the modern pony tail will put the finishing touch on your style.

Follow below for the how-to and the step by step.

You will need:

1) Apply dry shampoo in the crown if needed and part your hair in the desired part

2) Tease hair on the sides and at the crown

3) Give the hair a light spritz of hairspray- this will keep the tease in place

4) Using a boar bristle brush, smooth the surface and pull hair back into a ponytail, brushing the sides tighter and leaving volume in the back

5) Secure with a damage free hair tie

6) Select a small section of hair from underneath the base of the ponytail

7) Spray the selected section with hairspray and smooth with fingers- this makes it easier to wrap

8) Wrap that section around the pony tail as far as you can, landing under the ponytail

9) Secure the end of the wrap by placing a bobby pin up, flipped and then back in, with the ridges facing down under the hair

10) Lightly tease the ponytail to give it fullness and volume then finish the look by spraying the hair and smoothing flyaway’s with the brush
