Favorite Energy Snacks

A lesson I learned the tough way, is always bring little snacks to work or on the go, to eat through out the day. A while back, I would eat one meal throughout an 8-10 hour work day, as well as drinking a bunch of coffee. With little energy throughout the day, I would then come home exhausted and just zone out on the couch.

Since, I’ve come to respect my body more and value my energy, as well as understanding that being more attentive and on the peak of my game is being respectful to each client who sits in my chair.

In any given day, I will have my lunch with me, as well as two snacks plus an energy bar or some almonds stashed away for emergencies. Below are some of my favorite quick and inexpensive go-to (and to-go) snacks.

Whole Wheat Toast + Drizzle Red Pepper Olive Oil + Sea Salt +Avocado

Carrots + Peanut Butter

Smoothie

Hummus + Celery

Almonds

Chia Pudding

Hard Boiled Eggs + Sriracha Sauce

Greek Yogurt + Berries + Cinnamon + Drizzle of Honey

 

Pumpkin-Maca Chia Pudding

Lately, I have been making this recipe time and time again. I happened to come up with it one day when I wanted to put a little spin on my chia pudding. It is such an easy and energy boosting snack to throw together, especially when you make it and shake it right in a mason jar. Throw it in the fridge for a few hours and eat it at work or on the go. I love the idea of adding Maca powder to snacks for a nice kick of energy, just be sure to add only 1/2 a teaspoon to a full teaspoon as it has strong effects. I also added some cinnamon for its natural ability to regulate sugar as well as carob chips for its ability to lower cholesterol, rich in calcium and it’s filled with natural antioxidants. Pumpkin-Maca Chia Pudding * Per Mason Jar

  • 1/4 C. Chia Seeds
  • 1/2 C. Pumpkin Purée
  • 2 Tbsp. Carob Chips
  • 1 Tsp. Maca Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp. Cinnamon
  • Dash of Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • 1 Tsp. Honey
  • Coconut or Almond Milk

Put all of the ingredients into the jar, filling it slowly with either coconut or almond milk about 2 inches from the top. You want to leave room because it will expand a bit. Cap the jar and shake ingredients well. About 30 seconds. Place in fridge for at least an hour before eating. Enjoy!

Strawberry & Jalapeño-Lime ‘Rita’s

  

This refreshing margarita is a new favorite of mine. I came up with it one day when the husband and I were in the mood for a spicy margarita.. And low and behold I had a box of strawberries that needed a little loving..

Ingredients 

  • Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila
  • 2 ounces of Orange Liqour
  • Splash of  *Simple Syrup
  • 10 Strawberries
  • 1 lime
  • 1/4 of a Jalapeño 
  • Coarse Salt

* Simple Syrup

  • 1C Sugar in the Raw
  • 1C Water

*In a medium saucepan combine water and sugar, bring to a boil while continuesly stirring. Once sugar is fully dissolved, remove from heat and let the mixture cool. I like to keep a bottle in the fridge to have for a quick cocktail or iced coffee. It keeps for about a month. 

Slice your jalapeño and in a separate glass pour enough tequila for two drinks.. about 4 ounces. Put the jalapeño into the glass with tequila and set aside so it can soak while you prepare everything else. Cut up your strawberries, keeping to whole ones aside as garnish and put the rest into a cocktail shaker. Using a muddler or a big spoon, muddle up the strawberries. Cut a lime in half, saving two slices for garnish and squeeze the remainder into the shaker. Add in a good squirt of simple syrup, the Orange Liquor, and toss the jalapeño-tequila mixture in. Prepare two glasses with a bit of lime juice on the rim then twirled in the salt. If your feeling really spicy….add some cayenne pepper into the salt first. Fill the glass with ice, give the cocktail shaker some good shakes and pour over the ice. Garnish with a strawberry and a big slice of lime. Enjoy!

    Drink Your H2O

     

    I was never a big fan of water which sounds pretty ridiculous when you think of how our bodies actually run on it. A big fan of all of the benefits of being properly hydrated however, I knew I had to figure out a way to drink more of it. I mean come on, who wouldn’t want more energy, clear and dewy skin, suppressed appetite.. The list goes on. First I bought two new water bottles. One of them has a cap which is perfect to throw in my bag and helps me to always have water on me. Just having it, makes me drink it- point blank. Walking around the city I carry it in my hand and try to drink at least half before I get to my destination. The second bottle has a straw.. which, lets be honest makes anything more fun to drink and drink quicker I might add. I keep that bottle at work so it is covered and nothing (mhm-hair) flies into it. It can get boring though just to drink water, so I’ve gotten in the habit of flavoring it with Lime, lemon or frozen fruit. I have been loving lime and pineapple lately. And my favorite thing to do is use my soda stream to make club soda. I swear, one of the best investments I made that had paid itself back along time ago.
